The LTEF and BoatHouse have lost a great supporter!

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Dr. William Gentry Thurman. Dr. T, as he was known by his legions of friends and colleagues passed away at his home in Seattle, Washington yesterday.

Dr. T was a great supporter of the Lake Thunderbird Educational Foundation and the BoatHouse. His support was instrumental in having our first and most important grant funded by the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation. He was also responsible for the initial funding of the LTEF’s Barbara Cummings Scholarship Fund helping to provide for needy students in the Kids Sailing Classes. This fund has also assisted several of our US Sailing Instructors with their travel and class fees as they gained their teaching credentials.

I had the honor of working with him for some twenty years when he was President at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation until his retirement. Trips aboard his beautiful 53’ Canoe Cove yacht “Le Gabrielle “ from Anacortes, WA to Vancouver Island, Canada will never be forgotten. Dr T was a terrific mentor for so many of us at OMRF.

Below is Gabrielle and Dr T. visiting the BoatHouse back in 2004 and another of my grandson Will sailing the Optimist Pram, “Dr. T.” Please keep Dr. T’s wife Gabrielle and their family in your prayers.
